THE CLASS “B” SOFTBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP WAS UP FOR GRABS ON SUNDAY, AS VERMILLION NEEDED JUST A WIN TO CLAIM THE CROWN,WHILE WEST CENTRAL HAD TO PICK UP A PAIR OF WINS OVER THE TANAGERS TO CALL THEMSELVES STATE CHAMPS. THE TWO CLASHED AT SHERMAN PARK IN SIOUX FALLS FOR THE STATE B TITLE BOTTOM 1, WEST CENTRAL GETS THE OFFENSE GOING AS CHEYANNE MASTERSON HITS A SHOT TO DEAD CENTER FOR THE 3 RUN HOME RUN, PUTTING THE TROJANS UP 3 AFTER 1 SECOND INNING, WEST CENTRAL WITH 2 RUNNERS IN SCORING POSITION, TROJANS BUNT ATTEMPT STAYS FAIR, PAYTEN HALVERSON THROWS TO FIRST FOR 1 OUT, SYDNEY STOCKWELL THEN DOUBLES UP THE RUNNER AT HOME AS HALVERSON TAGS HER OUT, KEEPING IT A 3 RUN BALL GAME THROUGH 2 3RD INNING, MASTERSON AT THE DISH AGAIN, WITH A RUNNER ON, SHE’LL GO DEEP FOR THE 2ND TIME IN THE GAME, THIS ONE OFF THE DEEP FENCE IN LEFT CENTER WEST CENTRAL WINS GAME 1 8- 0, AND THEN TAKES THE WINNER-TAKE-ALL GAME 2, 16-4 TO WIN THEIR 4TH STRAIGHT STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND 7TH SINCE 2012.
